A Look Inside: Beautiful South

Welcome to the newest Chinese restaurant in Charleston, Beautiful South. Beautiful South is a Southern China-inspired restaurant from the owners of the beloved restaurant Kwei Fei on James Island. Tina Heath-Schuttenberg and husband David Schuttenberg have poured their passion and talent into this new concept in Downtown Charleston, making it one of the newest hotspots to try. The Interior

Beautiful South offers a tranquil and inviting late-night ambiance, making it an ideal choice for dinner, drinks, or a romantic date night. The interior is decorated with locally-crafted artwork, evoking the charm of South Carolina’s Lowcountry and the essence of South China. The main dining room features wall art by Sisal Creative, and each table is adorned with local handcrafted pottery for utensils. Beautiful South provides a range of seating choices, including bar seating, cozy booths, and spacious tables for larger gatherings.

Beautiful South offers popular Chinese options like General Tso’s Chicken, Lo Mein, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Beef and Broccoli along with speciality dishes like Chef David’s must-try Teochew-style Oyster Omelet (yes, omelet) and Crystal Chicken (pictured below). Beautiful South’s flavors are a little more subtle compared to the dishes at Kwei Fei, but trust us, you will want to come back for more.

Beautiful South also has a notable cocktail and wine menu. Pictured above is the Love Your Enemies cocktail, which is a light and refreshing cocktail made with milk-washed Yola Mezcal, tequila, lychee, Oolong, pineapple, and lemon. We also recommend trying the Sun Also Rises made with Ten to One White Rum, Golden Raisin Cordial, and lime.
